Our first school opened in October 2010.

Leap Village School - Kampong Thom Province.

The six classroom school at Leap Village has been built on land donated by the villagers. Surrounded by lush green paddy fields, it now serves the children of Leap and three neighbouring communities. Previously over 500 registered five to 10-year-olds in the area had no access to education. Older children were reluctantly accepted into a school some distance away but were mocked because they couldn't read or write and lagged behind their peers. Parents and village elders at Leap were enormously enthusiastic about the new school and gave us tremendous support; not only by providing the land free of charge but also building the access road themselves. As an unexpected bonus construction offered welcome employment for some locals who'd been forced to leave their homes to seek work.

Leap school comprises two buildings with three classrooms in each, two separate toilet blocks, a well for fresh water and a flag pole. We have supplied desks, chairs and blackboards while teachers and educational materials are provided by the Cambodian government. Lessons follow the local curriculum. It's a happy place where enthusiasm makes up for the lack of sophisticated equipment and high tech teaching aids.
